Now put your hands up… this is for ALL the beautiful ladies out there, single or not!
I can’t believe we’re nearly through January already! It’s not just me is it… time is speeding up, right? That old saying about time getting faster as we grow older seems to ring truer every day! Am I running out of time? But I’ve got so much I want to see and do yet.
Stop. Wait a minute. According to research, our brain’s internal clock slows down as we age, which means the pace of life appears to speed up, but there is hope and a way to slow it down! The answer… according to this article by Jeff Haden, (incidentally, also what I’ve been saying for a while now) is to do something different! Try new things, delve into the unknown with never-tried-before experiences and really mix it up a little. Introduce new ‘firsts’ into your life; it could be anything, big or small, scary or exciting, just do it!
And you don’t have to do it alone. We all know about the benefits of getting together with your besties and let’s face it; we don’t really need an excuse to get together. But for those that do want a valid reason…
As we all know, Valentine’s Day is coming up; an over-commercialised, romantic slushy day where your other half is supposed to shower you with love and bestow all red and pink coloured gifts upon us, for ONE day only?!  I don’t know about you, but I hope those closest to me love me for more than just one day at a time…
So let’s introduce another date to the calendar, which will no doubt eventually reach the dizzy heights of Valentines’ Day success, and is designed to celebrate girls and their friends everywhere! Originating from our cousins across the pond, it takes place the day before Valentine’s and celebrates everything great about our girlfriends. I know, I know… do we really want to create more consumerism than is necessary? Probably not, but sometimes it’s good to remember just how important our friends are to us and to make time, even for a day, to say ‘I couldn’t’ do it without you…’
You don’t need to do anything extravagant or expensive, adventurous or daring – however if you do opt for one of those, please share your stories with us, we’d love to hear from you! All it takes is a simple gesture; send a handwritten note through the post, pick up the ‘phone and say hello… meet someone for brunch or simply go for a walk and a blether! Laughter and fresh air are a heady combination 😉 or send them the gift of friendship and time to remind them just how much they mean to you.
Stay at home and have a girls night in, watch chick flicks or scare yourselves silly with a horror movie! All you need are your girlfriends, something to eat and drink, and time… how will you spend Galentine’s Day this year?
Life is better when you get the girls together.
Disclaimer: although this post promotes a ‘one-day-a-year’ celebration of friendship, Get The Girls Together in no way advocates such behaviour and our mission is to ensure that friendships are celebrated all year round, for no reason at all. You may find that choosing to celebrate your besties on this day only, could result in fewer social invitations, less fun, minimal laughter and increased stress levels; don’t say we didn’t warn you.
